Today, our neighbors and nonprofit partners generously donated their time to bring the Pioneer Farms experience to Weyerhaeuser kids. Kids were able to step back in time and learn how the children of the Ohop Valley learned, worked, and lived. They pumped water, shaved with a straight-razor, churned butter, shaved limbs with a draw-knife, cut the firewood, and more. All of this was exchanged in kind to our PTA for the use of our WES gym during the summer for a filming project. Thanks also to our nine parent volunteers who worked the stations and made this event so successful and safe. $2,000 from Box Tops has purchased the first four kits (good for 4-5th graders - two students per kit) A $3,000 donation from a parent was added to this pot, and a decision from our general membership meeting on Oct 13th has decided to grant another $2,100 of PTA monies to the school that will be expanding this program to encompass Kindergarten-5th graders, and up to 60 students in an after-school robotics club. YAY!! (Thank you to that parent for the sizeable and generous donation!!) This event was a blast! We want to give a big thank you to all that could attend and volunteer. You made this a successful family fun night. We had yummy treats and Varsity Pizza for sale and great prizes for the Bingo Winners! We also had a Fall Fundraising Kick-off with sweet cookie samples! It's great to see all the excited smiling faces of our families when they play bingo together. The only thing better is hearing the yells and whoops of a winning Bingo player! See you all in February for our next Bingo Night! The first day of school is always charged with excitement. This one was no different. We were there with coffee, treats and signups to greet all the eager learners and their parents at the front of the school on the 4th of September. We were also there on the 9th to greet our tearful Kindergarten parents as they held hands, bringing their little ones to the big school. Kleenex were available, along with comforting stories of independence and newly found parental freedom. Almost all of our committees were staffed, and we're looking forward to a great year here at WES!
Trick or Trunk was bigger and better than ever! The weather cooperated and loads of costumed kiddos turned out. 255 pounds of candy were donated, and more than 1,200 little toys were passed out. Warm apple cider, coffee, and cocoa were for sale and several ghoulish games were played. Our terrific bus drivers decked out one spooky bus! 21 Trunks participated in the decorating fun with 1st place winner Jason and Silvia Lewis with "The Last First Aid Station". 2 nd place, Rob and April Parke with "Zombie Shoot Out Game" winning family 4 passes to Maris Farms! Honorable Mentions: Chelsea Tindall, Jen Olsen and Bob & Nancy Barber. The bounce house donated by Dale Maris was enjoyed by all, and warmed up a good many bouncers. Thanks Kari Agnew for taking the lead, Ashley Sova for adding her creative flair, and everyone who participated to make this a great, free event for our families! ![]() Our labels collection is off to a great start and well on it's way to meeting the goals this year. This year, I am conducting bi-monthly contest for the classrooms, the first one starting in October. These contests really get the kids amped up and excited about collecting labels! I invite you to register with www.btfe.com and www.labelsforeducation.com . Both sites offer valuable coupons and links to other sites that can increase our schools labels collections, many of which to not require a purchase or actual label cutting. Both sites run contest throughout the year that you enter just by logging in. So please, check them out!!! There is a "goal" poster hanging up in the office next to the map (Track where our labels are coming from). It would be awesome to surpass those goals!!! Please attend the next membership meeting November 7th @2:30 and share your ideas of how you would like to see our Box Tops dollars and Labels for Education points spent. Don’t forget to ask EVERYONE that you know to save their labels. Thank You, Kim Labels Coordinator School store opened today (Sept. 20th) to crowds of excited students. Many of the kids mentioned they had been eagerly waiting for this event. We offer lots of school supplies, healthy and sweet treats, and affordable small trinkets. Please see our school store page on this website for a complete price list. Parent helpers are always welcome. It begins Fridays at 11 and we're finished by noon. Join us for the fun! Bingo Night was a Blast!! About 75 people braved the rain and showed up to play. Mrs. Sturdivant, and our district superintendent, Krestin Bahr were even there! There was yummy Varsity Pizza for just $2 a slice, reasonably priced sodas, and snacks too! The prizes were out of this world!! Grownups and kids alike loved them. Check out the slideshow to find yourself, or see what you missed.
